I'm happy to know that other folks love these cards, too.

I really think the differences are just a matter of the different printings. I did a couple of posts early on that centered on colors. The oranges in particular have a wide variety of shades. I believe the consistency of the combinations of frame and lettering over the shades supports that but obviously nobody knows for sure.

The exception is in the light blue farmed cards that have two different lettering patterns with the 5th Series light blues being different than the rest of the set. It's all pretty interesting stuff to speculate on.

You can pull up all my color-related posts with this link.

And feel free to dig around and find my errors or dumb conclusions! I can't determine if the difference is attributable to printing variations or an actual change in shades by Topps. (Or both.)

BTW, this blog is great. I love the '59s and you're doing a fantastic job bringing to life the players it features.Ericnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3301111177105932342.post-46422876523821820902014-02-20T15:16:57.958-06:002014-02-20T15:16:57.958-06:00Thanks, Douglas. Geiger is one of those. As is his teammate Jackie Jensen and George Altman among others. Lot's of great stories and a few tragic ones.

Doing this blog has been quite a bit more work than I foresaw but I've enjoyed it way more as well. Almost at the end now. I was living in Murphysboro at the time, possibly could have run into Gary. I even had his 1963 card. Compounding things my college roomate at the time was (and still is) a world class baseball autograph broker. He showed me publications listing where ex players lived. Gary must not have been listed or maybe his new address not listed for I know we would have went to see him.Douglashttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01050857323785108411noreply@blogger.com
